At dusk on 8 June 2026, near the Blackwell Recreation Area on Pine Creek about ten miles south of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, a witness filmed a steady amber light over the ridge line. By their account it held in place for five to seven minutes, then climbed up and over the mountain and out of sight.

What did witnesses see at Blackwell?

The footage was shared to the r/UFOs forum on 25 June 2026 by a user posting on behalf of her partner, who is not on Reddit. By her account the sighting happened on 8 June 2026 between about nine and half past nine in the evening, at the Blackwell Recreation Area on Pine Creek, roughly ten miles south of Wellsboro in the Pine Creek Gorge country of north central Pennsylvania.

The clip, about half a minute long, shows a deep blue twilight sky over a dark wall of forested ridge and tall pines. A single amber to orange point of light sits well above the tree line. It does not blink in the manner of an aircraft strobe and holds a steady warm color. By the witness account the light hovered for five to seven minutes before it ascended, rising up and over the mountain until it passed out of view.

What is the official explanation?

There is no official account of this sighting. It exists as a short witness clip posted to a public forum, with no agency, airport, or news comment attached to it.

What did the witnesses think it was?

The account is first hand and modest in its claims. The poster relays her partner’s description plainly, gives a specific location and time, and asks the forum what the object might be rather than asserting a conclusion. No second witness or second angle has surfaced so far, so the case rests on the single clip and the account that came with it.

The footage supports the basic description of a steady amber point above the ridge at dusk. At this distance and resolution it does not resolve the light into any identifiable object, and the reported hover and climb are described by the witness rather than clearly measurable in the short clip.

Is the An Amber Orb Over Pine Creek Near Wellsboro, Pennsylvania (8 June 2026) real? The two-pass assessment

Pass one, the mundane reading. A single steady amber light at dusk that hovers and then rises and drifts away over a ridge has a few ordinary candidates. The most common is a sky lantern, a paper hot air lantern that burns with exactly this warm amber glow, appears to hang while it gains buoyancy, and then lifts and travels with the wind, which matches the reported hover then climb closely. A distant aircraft or helicopter on approach, showing a warm landing or anticollision light and seen close to head on so its motion looks like a hover, is another fit, as is a drone with a single amber light. A bright planet low in the west at this hour is possible but sits poorly with the reported climb up and over the mountain. The warm steady color and the hover then ascend behavior point most naturally at a lantern or a slow aircraft.

Pass two, if it is not that. If the light genuinely held a fixed position for five to seven minutes and then accelerated vertically over the ridge under its own power, that would be harder to explain as a lantern carried on wind, but a single distant point filmed at dusk cannot establish that level of detail. The setting, a dark rural gorge with little light pollution, is good for clean sky watching, which is a point in the footage’s favor, but it does not by itself elevate the object.

The case is filed as Unknown. No official explanation exists and the object is unidentified in the footage, while the leading ordinary reading, a sky lantern or a slow moving aircraft light at dusk, is stated plainly and not hidden.
